If I could I’d trim my extra years, and take us back together to a time when we were older children. You would say my name, and that would change my shape. I’d find some unknown talent to persuade you that you need to see me. We would meet in a mix of a common nerves, and in the indoor city we’d make contact with our awkward fingers. Later in your room we’d listen for the door, and urgently explore the places you and I had never been before.

There was a day when the world was on my side. Everybody cheered. You were the loudest. For a second it seemed like you shifted just slightly. The world was on my side and everybody cheered. Now you are there in the city you belong to. The borough by the sea that’s built to the sky where the pretty people live. Sometimes I shake the way people shake when they don’t have the bad thing that makes them feel good. You found another pageant from another world, and it looks like you can hold your own in the biggest pond. God I’d love to swim with you again, but I know I never will. There was time when they said our names together. We shared each other's space, and we spent each other's time. Sometimes I pace the way people pace when they don’t have the good thing that makes them feel bad. Maybe I’ll escort you to the comic ball. Maybe I’ll fly to your island. Maybe you’ll see me as somebody else this time. No, I know what you said. Do know, I know what you said.

House on 9 04:30
The empty house on nine street is making noise again. In the fire hazard two had called their home there is screaming loud and angry. Their lives would end before they made their peace. So now they fight forever. The empty house on nine street is making noise again. In the wooden house that two would call their tomb there is screaming loud and angry. The flaming tongues had licked the skin from their faces, but they’re shouting loud as ever. The smoke would cheat the race with air to their lungs. So now they fight forever.

Bicentennial 03:47
I’m taken back to when the feathered hair was fashion, the wood was colored dark, and the floor was covered carpet. I’m taken back to when the music spun in circles, the rooms were filled with smoke, and the grownups filled with liquor. I’m taken back to when the pool was like an ocean. The speaker sang it’s song as I floated friendly waves. I’m taken back to when my micronautic epics kept me in my room, and occupied my urges. They wore a collar like a wing on the side of an airplane. Their joy reflected in the golden chains and glittery globes. The smell of English Leather mixed with sex on the dance floor. Their rolling boats would take them where they wanted to go. I’m taken back to when their parties went forever. The men would strike a match, and burn the vodka from the water. I’m taken back to when a man came from a curtain, and everybody laughed as the day would come to pass. Little plastic swords were always set on the table for doing battle with the casual cuisine of the day. I recall a comfort that I’m craving now. I miss it madly. I remember kindness in that time. I know I’m seeing scenes selected for my thrill, but I get to choose the scenes I save. I’m taken back to when. I want to go to when.

Shift 66 06:26
Make the moan of morning’s mourning. Start it all again. With sudden shock from daily duty I walk into a room to wash away the sleep, and clean my skin for living. Make the moan of morning’s mourning. Start it all again. It’s good to have this trouble. I guess I should be glad, but my eyes are still half open, and my mind’s still stuck in sleep. It’s not so easy for me. Struggle through the tasks of toil staring at a screen. Take a sip of liquid lifter. It’s for fuel for some machine. I wish I wasn’t here. There’s so much more to breathe for. Struggle through the tasks of toil staring at a screen. It’s good to have this trouble. I guess I should be glad, but my eyes are still half open, and my mind’s still stuck in sleep. It’s not so easy for me. Wake up. Ho-hum. It’s another sunny day spent the same way.

about

(r.i.y.l. Swervedriver, Superchunk, M.B.V.)

The 5-track EP concentrates on the scorching chords of the guitars creating sharp spikes along "Bicentennial" and vibrating effects across "What You Said". Fatheree's vocals have a storytelling touch...while the guitars circling the verses fire and soar as if under siege. The glam rock flourishes of "Older Children" contrast the lulling notes opening "House On 9" which build up in the outro into an entanglement of billowing crescendos. The band follows a similar pattern in "Shift 66" opening the track with slow, sullen chord rotations which branch out into the guitars and the rhythm section slamming and crashing into a bristling torrent. Fatheree's vocals offset the rampage by holding an even keel.
